The topic of rising airfare trends was one of the focal points of discussions among airport leaders during the Board Meeting of the Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID), hosted by Cambodia Airports, in Phnom Penh.
Shanghai Airports witnessed a new record high of one-day traffic both in aircraft movement and passenger throughput on August 11, 2024. The two airports in Shanghai accommodated totally 2,386 flights on one single day while Pudong International Airport handled 1,597 flights and Hongqiao International Airport 789 flights. The passenger traffic also marked a peak of 397,000 persons in a day with 254,000 at Pudong Airport and 143,000 at Hongqiao Airport.
Marking an 8% year-on-year increase in guests, DXB has established its position as a globally preferred gateway, boosted by strong connectivity with key international markets, while reaffirming its central role in supporting Dubai’s economic growth.
The company has opened a dedicated Lithium Batteries Storage Zone, equipped with CO2 fire suppression systems and fire-proof partitions to segregate battery cargo from other shipments. Increased provision of fire extinguishers will also help to contain any battery fire and reduce the risk of spread.
International flight passengers are forecasted to be 665,300 (daily average: 66,500). Note: Results during summer holidays in 2019 for 10 days were 748,030 with a daily average of 74,800. The busiest departure day is expected to be Saturday, August 10, 2024, with 39,000 departing passengers, while the busiest arrival day is forecasted to be Friday, August 9, 2024, with 36,900 arriving passengers.
Hamad International Airport (DOH) has demonstrated exceptional growth in the first half of 2024, witnessing a significant increase of 25% in passenger traffic. Additionally, its aircraft movement has grown by 19%, total number of bags handled has grown by 19% and cargo operations has increased by 12%, in comparison to the first half of 2023.
Airport International Group announced that Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) received 4,152,533 passengers (PAX) until June 2024, witnessing a 4.6% drop in PAX figures, as opposed to the same period in 2023. QAIA also reported 35,562 aircraft movements (ACM) and 38,424 tons of cargo, down 4.5% and up 23.5%, respectively, against the same period the previous year.
Domestic travel to the Gold Coast has never been stronger, with FY24 topping the charts as Gold Coast Airport’s busiest year on record for domestic passengers.
Macau International Airport (MIA) recorded significant passenger growth in the first half of 2024. From January to June 2024, MIA handled over 3.73 million passengers and more than 29,000 aircraft movements marking an increase of 91% and 72% respectively compared to the same period of last year.
The total international passenger traffic recovered to 92% in 2019, with the non-Japanese traffic reaching a record high of 1.62 million* on a single month basis since the airport opened.
