The topic of rising airfare trends was one of the focal points of discussions among airport leaders during the Board Meeting of the Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID), hosted by Cambodia Airports, in Phnom Penh.
The year is off to a flying start for Melbourne Airport with record breaking passenger numbers achieved in the first four weeks of 2018. January has proven to be the airport’s busiest calendar month in International passenger traffic reaching 1,032,144 movements, a six per cent increase since January 2017.
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) recorded strong growth in cargo throughput in January, handling 410,000 tonnes with a year-on-year surge of 9.9%. During the month, flight movements increased 1.9% to 35,985 while passenger throughput slightly decreased 0.9% to 6.13 million compared with the same month in 2017.
Queensland Airports Limited has recorded its busiest month ever thanks to growth at each of its four airports in January. QAL group airports on the Gold Coast and in Townsville, Mount Isa and Longreach collectively facilitated 794,433 passengers in January, outstripping the previous record of 768,719 which was only set in December last year.
Kansai Airports is delighted to announce that Kansai International Airport will become the first scheduled-flight destination for Boeing’s newest aircraft B787-10. The aircraft will be deployed on Singapore Airlines’ KIX=Singapore route, starting operation from May 2018.
Yangon International Airport, the largest and busiest airport in Myanmar capable of handling 20 million passengers, today facilitated the first charter flight operations from Xiamen, China for this coming Lunar New Year season.
Changi Airport’s Terminal 4 (T4) has handled more than 1.6 million passengers and over 9,400 flights since its operational opening on 31 October 2017. On 25 January 2018, Changi Airport welcomed its first new airline for the year to T4 – JC (Cambodia) International Airlines, which commenced a daily service to Phnom Penh.
Yangon International Airport, the largest and busiest airport in Myanmar and a key gateway into the country, welcomed 5.92 million passengers over the course of 2017.
SilkAir will be operating four additional weekly flights to Maldives from 27 March 2018. Together with Singapore Airlines, there will be a total of 18 weekly flights to Maldives.
Hamad International Airport has welcomed 120 million passengers since the beginning of its operations in May 27th 2014 till the end of 2017. In 2017, Cargo observed an increase by 14.52%, with total of 1.9 million tonnes in handling.
