The topic of rising airfare trends was one of the focal points of discussions among airport leaders during the Board Meeting of the Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID), hosted by Cambodia Airports, in Phnom Penh.
Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) today released air traffic figures for Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) for February 2024. During the month, HKIA handled 4.2 million passengers and 27,615 flight movements, representing increases of 96.5% and 69.3%, respectively, when compared with the low base in the same month last year.
Airport International Group announced that Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) welcomed 676,355 passengers (PAX) in February, marking a 4.5% increase compared to 2023 figures. QAIA also registered 5,396 aircraft movements (ACM) and handled 6,571 tons of cargo, down 0.1% and up 46.8%, respectively, against the same period last year.
China’s “Chunyun”, travel rush during the Chinese Spring Festival, is one of the world’s largest people migration in a short period of time. The traffic of Shanghai airports during the Chinese Spring Festival has hit a record high, 395,000 passengers in a single day.
The number of foreign passengers for international flights was 97%, the same level before the outbreak of COVID-19, making the total number of international passengers 84% of the same month in 2020.
According to Airport International Group, Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) welcomed 695,504 passengers (PAX) during January - marking a 2.8% increase against 2023 figures. Moreover, QAIA recorded 5,767 aircraft movements (ACM), down 4.2% compared to 2023. QAIA also handled 6,407 tons of cargo, recording a 34.6% surge as opposed to 2023 numbers.
The Commerce Commission is right in the middle of scrutinising what Auckland Airport charges airlines to use essential airport assets with the process due to be completed in September this year.
Macau International Airport (MIA) had a bustling Chinese New Year (CNY) in 2024. During the holidays from 10th to 14th February 2024, MIA welcomed over 110,000 passengers and handled more than 800 flight movements, both figures recorded a two-fold increase compared with same period during the Lunar New Year of last year (2023).
Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) recorded strong passenger growth throughout 2023, with 8.1 million customers travelling through its four airports, up 10% on the year prior.
Chinese New Year (CNY) is approaching, it is expected that an additional 80 flights will be operated in Macau International Airport (MIA) during the five days holiday of CNY holiday (10th to 14th February 2024).
