  • 2023-04-26

Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific and the China Civil Airports Association (CCAA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation and promote excellence in airport operations and management.

The MoU will enhance the synergy between ACI Asia-Pacific and CCAA to promote regular exchanges of information and economic data, assessment of airport service quality, customer service best practices and capacity building initiatives through establishing communication mechanisms.

Within the framework of the MoU, ACI Asia-Pacific will work with CCAA to create awareness around environmental issues through ACI’s Airport Carbon Accreditation and the CCAA’s Airport Carbon Evaluation programmes.

Commenting on the collaboration with CCAA, Mr. Stefano Baronci, Director General, ACI Asia-Pacific said: “China plays a dominant role in the region’s economy by facilitating trade and transport and this MoU with CCAA is a significant step in that direction. China is anticipated to be one of the most vibrant aviation markets, contributing 21% of the global passenger traffic growth in the next two decades. With the re-opening of the Chinese borders to international traffic in January 2023, the enhanced cooperation between ACI Asia-Pacific and CCAA comes at the perfect time to build for a brighter future of the aviation sector in the Region. We hope this MoU will further strengthen the already strong ties between ACI Asia-Pacific and CCAA and will serve as a platform to promote international best practices and capacity building to the airports in China as part of our mission to promote excellence in airport operations and management,”

Commenting on the MoU, Ms. Wang Ruiping, Chair of CCAA said: “In recent years, China civil aviation industry has been undergoing a new development stage of building a safe, green, smart, humanistic airport construction. Civil Aviation Administration of China has given proven track records in promoting SMS (safety management system) in construction, low-carbon airports and passenger services. CCAA is willing to share resources, complement each other’s strengths and achieve common development goals on the basis of the signing the MoU. We expect the two sides to carry out in-depth and high-quality research in the fields of environment, health, safety, and sustainable development. CCAA is willing to participate in the formulation of international standards and rules with a more open and inclusive attitude to facilitate exchanges and cooperation between China civil airports and the international community. We are expected to participate more ACI Asia-Pacific activities to share the voices of China civil airports and the fruitful innovative outcomes of China airports’ development.”

ACI Asia-Pacific and CCAA agree to sharing know-how on several business areas including best practices to protect the environment, technical guidelines or standards on passenger health, public safety and customer services in the industry.

CCAA will actively support and assist ACI Asia-Pacific member airports in mainland China and encourage others to participate in ACI activities.
