ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East Continues to Represent Airports’ Interest in Aviation Security in the Middle East region

  • 2024-01-31

Over the years, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East has been playing an active role in the area of security and facilitation in the Middle East region. One of the meetings that ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East is heavily involved in is the ICAO Middle East Regional Aviation Security and Facilitation Implementation Team (RAFIT). RAFIT’s main role is to provide technical advice and solutions for the implementation of the work programme developed by the ICAO regional office.

The 6th meeting of RAFIT was held recently on 29 Jan 2024 with participation of over 30 representatives from States in the Middle East and other industry associations, including IATA and AACO and ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East. A number of key actions were completed at the meeting, including:

  • Updating the stakeholders in the region on the latest development at ICAO level (e.g. revision of the ICAO Global Aviation Security Plan);
  • Reviewing the implementation progress of regional SECFAL roadmap; and
  • Agreeing on the future work of RAFIT in the coming year.

ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East will continue to represent airports’ interest in RAFIT to help enhance aviation security in the region. The next meeting is tentatively scheduled to be virtually in July 2024.
