ACI Asia-Pacific Participates at ICAO CASP-AP Meeting to Promote APEX in Security
- 2023-02-16
ACI Asia-Pacific participated at the 9th Annual Technical and Operational Meeting (ATOM) of the Cooperative Aviation Security Programme – Asia Pacific (CASP-AP) in Singapore from 9-10 February 2023, hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS).
CASP-AP is a regional ICAO programme that aims to provide technical assistance to States in Asia-Pacific to enhance and implementation of aviation security compliances.
Attended by over 30 representatives from States and industry associations, the two-day meeting discussed extensively on the training and capacity building initiatives in aviation security and the priority areas that the CAS-AP should focus on in the coming year.
Mr. Gary Leung, Manager, Security and Facilitation, ACI Asia-Pacific was invited to give a presentation on the ACI APEX in Security. As a capacity building initiative, first launched in 2017, the APEX in Security is a peer-to-peer assessment that aims to help airports enhance security performance by improving compliance with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) as well as adopting industry best practices.
As on today, 38 security assessments have been conducted globally, and 14 of them were at airports in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region. In addition, Mr. Leung also provided an overview of the common areas of security findings that have been observed from previous assessments, including documentation, risk assessment, security awareness, and implementation.
More APEX assessments have been planned for the year of 2023.
