Airport Authority Welcomes Extension of Exemption for Air Passenger Departure Tax
- 2025-04-09
Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) welcomes the Government's proposal to extend the time limit for air-to-air transfer passengers to be exempted from Air Passengers Departure Tax, allowing those departing on the next day after arrival to enjoy the exemption. It can support Hong Kong’s tourism industry by encouraging more transfer passengers to spend time visiting the city’s attractions and enjoy its retail and restaurant offerings.
We also appreciate that the Government will continue to explore different means, including the arrangements for further extending the exemptions for Airport Passenger Departure Tax, to attract more passengers to use the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), especially those from the Greater Bay Area, who may enter Hong Kong by transport other than flights and depart at HKIA. This will enable HKIA to enhance its competitiveness and further consolidate its status as an international aviation hub. AAHK will work closely with the Government in studying possible options and the related implementation mechanism.
