BAC Staff Member Named ACI Asia-Pacific Young Executive 2021
- 19 Apr 2021
The Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific has named David Oatley from Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) the winner of the Young Executive Award 2021. In nominating for the Award, entrants are required to submit a research paper that contributes to innovative solutions to current aviation industry issues.
This year’s topic was ‘Passenger Facilitation under Pandemic’.
The paper entered by Mr Oatley, BAC’s Airport Planning Manager, outlined Brisbane Airport’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its legacy for airport planning. The paper covered three types of interventions for airports that seek to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID and compel consumers to return to flying – design interventions, programmed interventions, and policy interventions.
Gert-Jan de Graaff, Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO, said the accolade reflected not only David’s individual achievement, but also BAC’s embrace of young talent and forward-thinking.
"For David to be named the ACI Asia-Pacific Young Executive of the Year and be recognised at such a level by your peers is a fantastic and well-deserved achievement.
"The extensive research, analysis and recommended interventions outlined within David’s paper will be invaluable for our future airport planning, as it will allow us to better meet the needs of our community," Mr de Graaff said.
Mr Oatley said the award should be shared across the company.
"It is a huge honour to be recognised by ACI Asia-Pacific, although I must admit I don’t think it is so personal. It is actually a reflection on Brisbane Airport Corporation in its entirety.
"Being fortunate to work with so many different people across the business, I am proud of what has been achieved throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and the way in which we have adapted to serve the needs of all members of our community.
"It is an honour to be part of the team and I honestly believe the future for Brisbane Airport is very, very bright," Mr Oatley said.
