CAM BOD and Executive Committee Received Delegation from Executive Committee of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin

On 29th June 2023, Mr. Ma Iao Hang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM), Mr. Chan Weng Hong, Chairman of the Executive Committee of CAM and three Executive Directors, Mr. Kan Cheok Kuan, Mr. Lei Si Tai and Mr. Leung Henry Yee Hang etc., received Mr. Nie Xinping, Director of the Hengqin Office of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government, Deputy Director of the Executive Committee of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and his delegation, to introduce the establishment of the Macau International Airport (MIA) Check-in Centre on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the operation process of MIA cargo terminal. A meeting was also held to explore the development opportunities between the two regions and jointly promote the integrated development of Hengqin and Macau.

Chairman Mr. Ma expressed a warm welcome to Director Mr. Nie and his delegation. It is hoped that this exchange could deepen cooperation between both parties in aviation passenger services and logistics fields, open up the strategic cooperation space, so that Macau International Airport becomes an international airport in Hengqin and Zhuhai.

Chairman Mr. Chan said that the passenger volume has been steadily increasing with the gradual resumption of operations of routes. It is expected that the passenger volume will exceed 1.9 million in the first half of this year, in response to the construction work of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin by the Macau SAR Government. MIA actively coordinates and seeks feasible solutions to connect both regions in multiple ways, promotes overall development between Hengqin and Macau, and creates opportunities for seamless connection of cooperation between Macau and Zhuhai airports.

Director Mr. Nie said that based on the resource endowment and development foundation of Guangdong and Macau, the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin implements the new system of joint consultation, joint construction, joint management with sharing of Guangdong-Macau, which has brought new impetus to the development of the Greater Bay Area. At present, demand of the market for cargo and trade has increased significantly, so as for the room of cooperation between the two regions. It is the right time for Macau International Airport to actively develop the check-in hall and cargo business in Hengqin, and it will also bring more development opportunities to both places.

Mr. Eric Fong, Director of Marketing Department (MKD) of CAM introduced the infrastructure, hardware and software equipment and overall operation of the MIA Check-in Centre on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. It is believed that after putting in operation, it will provide a more convenient channel for passengers from the west of Guangdong Province to use the Airport. Afterwards, the delegation site visited the cargo terminal at MIA to see its location and facilities.

Mr. Gary Geng, Director of Airport Operations Department (AOD) of CAM expressed the hope to have the service of Express Link resuming as soon as possible, so as to create conditions to provide quality check-in service for Hengqin residents, and facilitate their use of MIA. At the same time, Mr. Jim Leung, Deputy Director of Logistics and General Aviation Development Department (LGD) introduced to the guests that with the rapid development of Hengqin, the implementation of various preferential policies will bring more commercial investments, MIA plans to invest and create favorable conditions which allows the export business in Hengqin could better utilize facilities of MIA.
