CAM Executive Committee Instructs Airport Units to Take Precautionary Measures against Rainstorms

According to the forecast of the Macau Meteorological Bureau, a trough of low pressure will bring heavy showers and thunderstorms to Macau this week. Macau International Airport is ready to take corresponding defensive measures in advance. Dr. Deng Jun, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM), and all the Executive Directors: Mr. Chu Tan Neng, Mr. Kan Cheok Kuan, Mr. Lei Si Tai and Mr. Leung Henry Yee Hang immediately issued instructions to the various business departments and operating units of the airport, requesting to deploy and fully prepare before the rainstorm, to ensure the normal operation of the airport in severe weather, while maintaining passenger service.
In terms of the daily operation of the Airport, the Airport Operations Department (AOD) will negotiate with the restaurant to extend the restaurant's business hours in case of flight delay or cancellation during the rainstorm to ensure the catering service for passengers. At the same time, sufficient food and drinking water will be prepared to supply affected passengers stranded at the airport. Other preparatory work includes inspecting the location in and around the airport, requiring all operating units and units with engineering to place equipment properly and take precautionary measures. To inspect equipment such as fences, glass, generators and drains around the airport. At the same time, prepare waterproof sandbags, sluice gates and windproof tape, etc., to fix doors, windows and equipment. In addition, the airline has been reminded to secure the aircraft parked on the apron so as not to affect the apron’s safe operation; AOD and the airline will maintain close communication to keep abreast of the latest flight situation, so as to make corresponding cooperation and arrangements. All operating units in the airport have made preparations for the rainstorm. Menzies Macau Airport Service Limited has consolidated the empty containers on the apron, and assembled the equipment and appliances used on the apron for better management. Macau Catering Service Limited has communicated with colleagues internally, and will arrange colleagues who live in flooding blackspots to stay in dormitories, to ensure the daily operation of the kitchen and the operation department, and make sure the catering service is not affected.
For large scale outdoor construction works at the airport, supervisors and contractors have carried out inspections, made it clear any blockages in drains and channels, inspected on bamboo scaffolding platforms to ensure the structure is intact and stable; inspected and secured all loose materials, barricades and equipment.
