  • 2023-08-29

Chubu Centrair International Airport (Centrair) has achieved Level 4 (Transformation) of the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA), a program established by the Airports Council International (ACI).

Centrair has declared the "Centrair Zero Carbon 2050" in 2021 and is working to reduce its environmental impact, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 46% compared to fiscal 2013 by fiscal 2030 and to achieve zero carbon by fiscal 2050.

In obtaining this accreditation, Centrair was recognized for its long-term reduction targets towards 2050 and its plans to identify and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the airport’s activities, including airport facilities and vehicles.

Following this accreditation, the Chubu Centrair International Airport Decarbonization Promotion Council, which made up of airport-related operators, will continue to work towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions to achieve zero carbon by utilizing the ACA program.

Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Stefano Baronci, Director General, ACI Asia-Pacific, said,“We are proud of Chubu Centrair International Airport’s achievement in reducing carbon emissions and setting an example for airports in the region. Chubu Centrair International Airport is firmly positioning itself as one of the leaders in efficient carbon management and this achievement truly demonstrates its firm commitment to invest in a more sustainable future. It’s encouraging to see airports making tremendous efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change and enhance climate-resilience in an era of unprecedented challenges for the industry."
