Gold Coast Airport Preparing for One of Its Busiest Summers Ever
- 2023-11-30
Gold Coast Airport is preparing for one of its busiest summer holidays on record, with 1.2 million passengers expected over December and January.
On the busiest days more than 20,000 passengers are expected to travel through the terminal, with the most popular routes being Sydney and Melbourne, and internationally our New Zealand connections.
Queensland Airports Limited Chief Operating Officer Marion Charlton said the busiest days are expected to be the Friday, Saturday and Sunday before Christmas and the first week of January.
“We’re prepared to handle these busy periods, we’ve rostered on additional team members and have 57 volunteer Ambassadors and five therapy dogs who are here to help customers,” Ms Charlton said.
“The terminal will be busy so we’re encouraging passengers to book their parking online, check-in online and allow plenty of time to get to and through the airport,” she said.
The addition of Bonza’s 14 new routes to Gold Coast Airport’s network is expected to provide a significant boost to passenger numbers.
“Bonza’s services have the potential to bring 15 thousand extra passengers through our terminal each week with many of the destinations new to our network, helping friends and family to connect more easily over the summer holidays,” Ms Charlton said.
“Our connections with New Zealand are also performing exceptionally well – Auckland services are our busiest international route,” she said.
Passengers will notice upgrades taking place in the domestic terminal with 13 new retailers opened and a further 12 set to open in the coming months.
To celebrate the holiday season Gold Coast Airport is bringing back its 12 Days of Christmas program with roaming festive entertainment in the terminal from December 12 and a visit from Santa in the lead up to Christmas.
