Inauguration of New Terminals 3 and 4 at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport

H.R.H. Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Governor of Riyadh region, has inaugurated the newly refurbished terminals 3 and 4 at King Khalid International Airport (KKIA), in the presence of H.E. the Minister of Transport and Logistics Eng.

 

Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, H.E. the President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Mr. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej, and Mohammed Al-Maghlouth the CEO of Riyadh Airports Company, which manages and operates KKIA.


The new buildings will host Saudia and special World Cup flights to Doha, together with Flynas, Flyadeal and international flights of other SkyTeam members.


Saudia’s Doha flights were the first to move to the new terminals on November 9th, and the following day all Doha station flights transferred across. Later it will be the turn of all remaining Saudia International flights, followed by Flynas, Flyadeal, Middle East Airlines, and KLM.


Each of the two new terminals has seven air bridges, and each has a capacity to be able to handle 1,413 arriving passengers and 1,128 departing passengers every hour. Landside check-in has 95 counters and 12 self-service machines. The new terminals can handle wide-bodied aircraft, such as the A380; and there are three Business class lounges. The opening was timed to coincide with the sart of the World Cup in Qatar.


Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser explained that the opening of the two halls was an important step in positioning Riyadh as a global hub. “It will contribute to the growth of travel and the empowerment of the tourism and economic sectors,” he said.  “We will continue to work to raise the capacity in the Kingdom's airports and improve the passenger experience in order to achieve the goals of the national strategy for transport and logistics services in accordance with the Kingdom's Vision 2030."


The President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej, pointed out that Terminals 3 and 4 will support the airport's total capacity by being able to handle 13 million passengers annually, and this expansion is only the beginning of further expansions in the future. 


The CEO of Riyadh Airports, Eng. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Maghlouth, told assembled delegates that the addition of the new terminals was a major boost to RAC’s ambitions of making KKIA the leading airport in the region. “Our growth plan will see us enhancing the airport's capacity and upgrading the services provided to travellers from around the world,” he said.
