  • 2024-03-21

Kannur International Airport is gearing up for the upcoming summer season with a series of enhancements to its flight schedule, aimed at improving connectivity for travelers. The airport will introduce new routes and increase frequencies to several destinations, particularly in the Gulf region.

The highlight of the summer schedule is the expansion of Kannur's reach to all Gulf countries, with flights to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras-Al-Khaimah, Dammam, Doha, Muscat, Riyadh, Jeddah, Kuwait, and Bahrain, complemented by daily departures scheduled for Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Muscat. This move is expected to provide passengers with more options for travel to popular destinations in the Middle East.

An important development is the signing of an MoU with Air India Express, which will result in a significant boost to international connectivity. As part of this agreement, Air India Express will launch two new routes to Ras-Al-Khaimah and Dammam, with three weekly departures each.

Additionally, frequencies to Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and Muscat will see an increase to 12, 10 and 7 weekly departures respectively, offering passengers more flexibility in their travel plans.

On the domestic front, Indigo will enhance its Chennai departures with A320 aircraft, ensuring a more comfortable journey for passengers. Furthermore, Indigo will extend its daily morning Cochin departure to Trivandrum, providing better connectivity between key cities in the region.

Bengaluru will become the most connected sector from Kannur, with three daily departures, including two by Indigo and one by Air India Express.

Air India Express will operate its domestic flights with brand new B737MAX aircraft, promising passengers an enhanced travel experience. Kannur will also offer daily departures to Hyderabad and four weekly departures to Mumbai.

Both Air India Express and IndiGo will offer onward connections to a range of domestic destinations, including Kolkata, Delhi, Pune, Goa, Ranchi, Guwahati, Surat, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Vishakhapatnam, and Bhuvaneshwar, as well as international connections to various European destinations, expanding travel options for passengers.

With these enhancements, Kannur International Airport expects a notable increase of 10% in weekly seating availability in the Summer Schedule 2024, providing travelers with more choices and improved connectivity options.
