Kansai Airports: Leftover Clean Water From Aircraft to Be Utilized for Firefighter Training - Saving 1,000 Cubic Meters of Clean Water Per Year -

  • 2023-09-29

Kansai Airports in cooperation with KONOIKE Group K Ground Service Co., Ltd. and K Ground Expert Co., Ltd. announces that from October 2, 2023, water that has been discarded from flights arriving at Kansai International Airport will be used as firefighting water.

Aircraft need to carry clean water for toilets, hand-washing and dish-washing onboard. At the end of a flight, the unused water is discarded and the tanks are refilled to guarantee the perfect  hygiene of the water. This initiative aims to utilize this remaining clean water for the training of firefighters at KIX. This initiative can save up to 1,000 cubic meters of clean water per year.

Kansai Airports Group will continue to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by promoting initiatives for decarbonization, circular economy, and an environmental symbiosis.
