Kansai Airports’ New Environmental Plan: the Environmental Vision 2050 and Environmental Goals 2030

  • 2023-03-29

Kansai Airports Group is delighted to announce the launch of its new environmental plan in April 2023 at its 3 Kansai airports (Kansai International Airport, Osaka International Airport, and Kobe Airport), aimed at reducing its environmental impact.

We, Kansai Airports Group, have been actively working on reducing its environmental impact atthe 3 airports we operate. We formulated the Environmental Vision 2050 and Environmental Goals 2030 to recognize once again the importance of solving environmental issues on a global scale, such as by decarbonization, and to not only continue the existing plans but also further advance them. With decarbonization, circular economy, and environmental symbiosis as the 3 pillars, we have set our long-term vision as well as the specific goals toward the milestone, 2030. Kansai Airports Group will continue to take united actions to reduce our environmental impact and to contribute to a sustainable society through the operations of the airports as a public infrastructure.

Key points of the new plan

  • The total management with the focus not only on reducing greenhouse gases (GHGs) but also on contributing to resource circulation, environmental monitoring and biodiversity
  • Our vision to reduce GHG emissions, including emissions in Scope 3, in which Kansai Airports Group is directly involved.
  • Raising our GHG emission reduction targets in Scope 1 and 2 for FY2030 (from 40% reduction to 50% reduction compared to the FY2016 levels).
  • Zero Waste Airport Vision to achieve the waste recycling rate of 100%.
  • Reinforcement of the system to propel environmental activities.
