Key Road Project will Unlock Future Jobs for Western Australia

  • 2023-11-16

Perth Airport has welcomed the decision by Federal Minister for Infrastructure Catherine King to maintain Federal support for the Great Eastern Highway Bypass and Kalamunda Road project located north of the Perth Airport estate.

The project will create a new interchange at Great Eastern Highway Bypass and Kalamunda Road and will replace the Kalamunda Road bridge over the freight rail line.

Perth Airport’s Acting CEO Kate Holsgrove has welcomed the Federal Government’s commitment to help fund vital roadworks which will enhance access in and around the Airport North Precinct.

“These projects will make heavy vehicle movements safer and more efficient and at the same time deliver the access required to deliver the future potential of the Airport North precinct,” Ms Holsgrove said.

“Freight carried on this route is essential to the metro region and beyond, and plays a key role in our economic prosperity.

“The Airport North precinct has been earmarked for future commercial and industrial development and will generate enormous employment opportunities for Western Australia well into the future.

““The complete development of Airport North is estimated to generate 6,200 jobs and $1.78billion in economic output.

“Site preparation works alone will involve a $178million direct investment and create an estimated 1,600 direct and indirect jobs.

“Perth Airport will work with both the State and Federal Governments to better understand the funding mix and sequencing of construction works to ensure it is delivered in a timely and efficient manner.”

The Preliminary Major Development Plan for Airport North development was released for public comment in December last year and will be lodged with the Federal Government next year to secure statutory approvals. The development of this area has also been highlighted in previous Perth Airport Master Plans.
