KIX 30th Anniversary Special Event “Let’s learn about KIX from the sea” tour! Our initiatives for the diversity and environment of Osaka Bay

Kansai Airports and the Osaka Prefecture Federation of Fishing Cooperative Associations (FCA) are pleased to announce the “Let's learn about KIX from the sea” tour, to be held on August 3 and 4, 2024, a special event to  mark the 30th anniversary of the opening of Kansai International Airport (KIX). 

This tour is designed for children from 4th to 6th grades of elementary school and includes a tour of the sea area around KIX using a chartered boat. Through this event, we aim to deepen children's understanding of and interest in the diversity of Osaka Bay, the fishing industry, and the environmental conservation efforts at KIX. This event is a fun way to learn about the environment through a rare view of the seaweed bed from the boat, and by interacting with the fish living in Osaka Bay through a unique activity of releasing red spottedgrouper (Kijihata) into the sea. 

Kansai Airports Group will continue to strive to make the airport friendly to both people and the environment, and to deliver the charm of the airport and travel to everyone through enjoyable activities. 

Date & time:  Saturday, August 3 and Sunday, August 4, 2024 
(1) 10:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and (2) 1:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. both days (Rain or shine) 

Eligibility: Children in 4th grade to 6th grade elementary school students with their guardian *Children must be accompanied by their guardian. 
Limit: 20 persons in 10 pairs per session (1) or (2) (a total of 80 persons in 40 pairs) 
Details:1. Introduction of the environmental conservation efforts at Osaka Bay by Kansai Airports and the Osaka Prefecture Federation of Fishing Cooperative Associations 2. Tour of the seaweed bed environment around the airport by chartered boat and explanation of fishing activities and the fish in the area 3. Exhibit of Kijihata grouper in an aquarium at the port terminal and experience of releasing the fish into the bay, followed by a photo session.

Application period: Monday, June 17, from 2:00 p.m. to Friday, July 5, 12:00 p.m. Releasing fish
