KIX to Hold Sky Day Event Celebrating 25th Anniversary of Airport’s Opening

  • 04 Sep 2019

Kansai Airports is delighted to announce that a Sky Day event will take place on Friday September 20—the day celebrating national aviation development—in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the opening of Kansai International Airport (KIX).

On September 4, 1994, KIX opened as Japan’s first airport operating around the clock. After 25 years of operation, the airport is now handling approximately 30 million passengers a year with flights to and from 73 cities worldwide. Commemorating the anniversary, we will hold the special event, taking this opportunity to extend our appreciation to customers using KIX, the gateway connecting Kansai to the world.

The event consists of two parts. The first part of the program, titled the “25th anniversary and Sky Day ceremony,” features an opening act by kindergarteners as well as greetings by Sorayan, Kansai Airports Group’ s official mascot, and others. Other highlights include interviews with workers in the airport or aviation industry by elementary school students acting as reporters, along with live talks with pilots, cabin attendants, aircraft maintenance technicians and air traffic controllers. In the second part, which will celebrate Sky Day, airlines will offer exciting activities including an origami plane class and photo opportunities where airport guests can take pictures in air crew’s uniforms. There will also be a pop-up installation for the anniversary and an exhibition showcasing KIX’s 25-year history at the venue. Come explore the history and fun facts of KIX from its opening!

Kansai Airports continues to deliver a new travel experience through exciting events that makes all customers full of smiles.
