Macau International Airport Customer Service Committee Visited Shinshu Matsumoto Airport at Japan

With the cancellation of travel restrictions and quarantine measures in various places, the passenger traffic volume of Macau International Airport (MIA) continues to flourish, along with the high travel demand on air services. In order to create conditions to develop international tourist sources and facilitate the high quality development of tourism economy in Macau, MIA Customer Service Committee carried out a familiarization tour to Shinshu Matsumoto Airport of Japan on 22nd to 25th May 2023 for business exchanges and experience sharing. Both parties discussed the feasibility of developing seasonal charter flights from Macau to Shinshu Matsumoto Airport, which was reported by local media Citizen Times.

At the meeting, the delegation put forward a number of analysis and suggestions on the cooperation between the two airports. Two parties had indepth discussion aiming at facilitation of cooperation between the aviation and tourism industries, and jointly launch international passenger discounts to attract more overseas tourists. Shinshu Matsumoto Airport is located almost the center of Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The Airport currently provides domestic flight services in Japan.

The main airlines servicing are Fuji Dream Airlines and Japan Airlines, which operating routes to New Chitose, Fukuoka, and Osaka respectively. Both parties had deep exchange on the preferential policies of airports and supports of airlines’ routes development. The rich natural scenery in Nagano, Japan, is unique in four seasons. With this exchange opportunity, the delegation undertook feasibility study of developing seasonal charter flights in the future. It is hoped that more international flights and destinations could be introduced and to promote the recovery of the international passenger market, so as to make more contribution to the diversified development of Macau’s tourism economy.

The delegation included Director of Marketing Department (MKD) of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) – Mr. Eric Fong, Deputy Director of MKD – Mr. Edman Lee, Administrative Assistant of MKD – Ms. Iris Lei; also General Manager – Southern China of Air Macau Company Limited – Mr. Winston Ma. The representatives of Matsumoto Airport included Special Advisor of Matsumoto Airport – Mr. Ryotaro Ezaki, Director of the International Promotion Office of Matsumoto Airport – Mr. Kyuho Atsushi, Matsumoto Airport Division – Ms. Natsu Shibasaki, International Exchange Division of Matsumoto Airport – Ms. Matsumoto Akiho, Assistant Counselor and Assistant Director of the International Tourism Promotion Office, Nagano Tourism Organization – Mr. Ando Yoshiyuki and Staff of the International Tourism Promotion Office, Nagano Tourism Organization – Ms. Motosawa Nao.
