Macau International Airport Reports Exceptional Performance in Passenger and Cargo Business

Macau International Airport’s (MIA) passenger traffic recorded over 7.64 million passengers in 2024, reaching new heights in recent years; while the flight movements exceeded 59,000, representing an increase of 48% and 41% respectively over the same period of last year.
December is particularly a peak travel period due to Christmas and New Year's Eve, recording a passenger volume of 680,000 and 5,280 flight movements, which is an annual increase of 14% and 9.6% compared to the same month of last year. During the Christmas holiday period (20th - 25th December 2024), airport handled an average of over 22,000 passengers daily. Especially, on the date of 22nd December 2024, airport handled 25,000 passengers recorded the highest single day traffic in December.
Currently, there are 27 airlines operating at MIA connecting Macau to some 41 destinations covering area in the Mainland of China, China Taiwan, Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia. In terms of cargo business, MIA managed to reach the cargo volume of 108,000 tonnes with a year-on-year increase of 70% approximately. MIA Hengqin Upstream Cargo Terminal Project Implementation Ceremony was held on December 2024. It will be continued to advance the design and subsequent review work, and is expected start construction in the first quarter of this year (2025). It is hoped that the project could enhance local aviation logistics capabilities.
Beginning of the New Year, Macau International Airport will continue to align with the tourism development direction of the Macao SAR Government, and while consolidating the source market of the mainland of China, to jointly exploring more international markets with overseas and base airlines, so as to promote the steady growth of the airport and route development in 2025. In addition, this year will further strengthen tourism promotion in the local area and the Greater Bay Area, expand the scope of visitor source of MIA, and optimize related travel facilitation measures and services for providing more convenient travel options to local residents and tourists and promote the diversification and sustainable development of the tourism industry.
