Macau International Airport Representatives Participated in Routes Asia 2023 at Chiang Mai

The Route Development Forum for Asia (Routes Asia 2023) took place at Chiang Mai, Thailand during 14th to 16th February 2023. Mr. Eric Fong, Director of Marketing Department (MKD) of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) and Mr. Edman Lee, Deputy Director of MKD represented to join the forum.
Routes Asia is one of the largest route development forum in the industry. The Forum gathered aviation professionals worldwide, bringing together with the largest range of civil aviation representatives from 260 organizations, with over 1,500 delegates from airline companies, airports, tourism authorities and service providers attended the Forum.
The Forum provided an opportunity for Macau International Airport (MIA) representatives to negotiate on new routes and reconnect with representatives from the world’s leading aviation organizations. They took this valuable chance to promote and introduce Macau and overview of MIA, to explore new cooperation opportunity, of which it includes prospective airline companies from Southeast Asia and India who were interested in Macau market. In early and mid of March, Thai Lion Air and Thai Vietjet Air will launch 3 – 4 flights per week to Bangkok. Fly Gangwon from Korea is targeting to launch Jeju – Macau service in March 2023. Hainan Airlines and Air Macau will launch and resume 3 flights per week to Haikou and Singapore in mid of March and at the end of the month respectively. Cambodia Airways is planning to resume flight services from Macau to Phnom Penh in the future. A Maldivian airlines expressed the interest to launch route between Maldives and Macau in the third quarter of 2023.
In addition, MIA representatives discussed with a number of airlines on the development of the Middle East market and transit to other countries through Macau, so as to develop diversified mid or long haul services. During the meeting, MIA representatives discussed with Turkish Airlines on feasibility of launching services, exchanged with Melbourne Airport on future cooperation with MIA. In post-epidemic period, airlines are actively seeking opportunities to diversified air services and packages. By attending the Forum, it is hoped that more leading global carriers could join the Macau market, and incorporation with SAR Government to build into the World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.
