Melbourne Airport Passenger Performance April 2019
- 14 May 2019
The number of airline passengers who travelled through Melbourne Airport last month grew by 2.3 per cent compared to April last year.
International traveller numbers hit 940,795, a rise of 4.9 per cent since April 2018. Meanwhile, the number of domestic passengers rose to 2,186,105, an increase of 1.2 per cent on April 2018.
Melbourne Airport CEO Lyell Strambi said he was delighted in the latest passenger figures.
“It is fantastic to see traveller numbers perform so well with a steady increase on last year’s volumes,” said Mr Strambi.
“April presented a great opportunity for many Australians to travel thanks to public holidays landing closely together and of course the Easter school holiday period.”
Mr Strambi said the busiest travel days were in the lead up to Easter.
“As you would expect the busiest days were around Easter and many of our travellers took advantage of the airport’s extensive international network during this time.
“Now Victorians can connect to 40 international destinations on a non-stop service, and 31 domestic and regional destinations, making travel easy and convenient for holidaymakers.”
Mr Strambi said strong passenger volumes also helped the Melbourne Airport Aviation Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) team raise more than $100,000 for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
“Our travellers were extremely generous towards the Appeal and on behalf of the airport I’d like to thank ARFF for driving its fundraising effort at the airport, raising such a significant number to help a great cause.”
