MIA Passenger Recorded 20% Increase in Q1 2018

In the first quarter of 2018, Macau International Airport (MIA) has handled more than 2 million passengers representing year-on-year growth of 20%. During the first quarter of 2018, the daily average traffic of Macau International Airport (MIA) reaches 22,000 passengers and 160 flight movements. During the first three months, flight movements at MIA recorded year-on-year increase of 14% to over 15,000. During the 4 days Easter holiday, MIA handled over 90,000 passengers, registered 12% increase compare to the same period of last year. With continuous increase of routes and load factor accompanied by new airlines entering the market, Mainland China, Southeast Asia and China Taiwan markets recorded increase of 33%, 19% and 7% respectively compared to same period of last year. Passengers travel with conventional and low cost airlines increased by 23% and 17% respectively. The overall performance is good.
Looking into the second quarter of 2018, as the new airlines joining the market, MIA will continue to develop a diversified aviation market, and it is expected to further drive the growth of passenger traffic of MIA and maintain the trend of growth. In addition to the direct charter flight service between China and Russia resumed in May this year, MIA will cooperate with airline companies to develop other potential medium and long-haul charter routes in tandem with the Macau SAR government to develop Macau as a “World tourism and leisure center”. As the average daily passenger traffic has reached 22,000 passengers, MIA will accelerate the pace of improvement of airport facilities in the future. In line with the changes in the aviation market environment and seize the golden opportunities resulting from the commencement of operations of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, MIA will actively increase related facilities to provide passengers with comfortable and convenient travel mode.
MIA will continue upholding the mission of “Safety, Efficiency, and Effectiveness”, to ensure the smooth operation of the airport and expand our route network to offer passengers with more travel options.
