New Sea Plane Maintenance Facility In Use At Velana International Airport

The new Seaplane Maintenance facility (MRO) that was developed as part of the new seaplane project at Velana International Airport (VIA) is now in use. 

The new seaplane project was divided into two components which is the Seaplane Terminal and the Seaplane Maintenance facility (MRO). For this project over 35,000 sqm of land was reclaimed at VIA’s the eastern lagoon. The designated area for MRO or the hanger is 14,000 sqm.

This new facility would greatly improve the airport's efficiency as the hanger is being utilized for the repair and maintenance of the seaplane fleet as well as vehicles at VIA.

Even though the hanger is completed and is being utilized, the terminal is scheduled to open on the 1st of April 2022.
