  • 2022-10-06

Korea Airports Corporation signs business agreement for a "bio-certified airport linkage service" with nine financial institutions and the KFTC

Service makes it possible to check in at the airport quickly and easily with a mobile phone number and palm authentication

Beginning on September 29, 2022, passengers boarding a domestic flight at 14 Korean airports* will be able to quickly and easily confirm their identity using (palm vein-based) bioinformation registered at nine commercial financial institutions.

* 14 airports: Gimpo Airport, Gimhae Airport, Jeju Airport, Cheongju Airport, Daegu Airport, Muan Airport, Yangyang Airport, Gwangju Airport, Ulsan Airport, Yeosu Airport, Pohang Gyeongju Airport, Sacheon Airport, Gunsan Airport, Wonju Airport

Today at its Seoul headquarters, the Korea Airports Corporation (President Yoon Hyeong-jung) signed a business agreement with nine financial institutions* and the Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings Institute (KFTC) to launch the 'Bio-Authentication Airport Linkage Service' service.

* Financial Institutions: Nonghyup Bank, Daegu Bank, Shinhan Bank, Woori Bank, Hana Bank, Agricultural Cooperative Federation, Saemaul Geumgo, Shinhyup, Kookmin Bank

Consequently, customers who register their palm vein data and mobile phone numbers at financial institutions and consent to the use of their information at the airport can use this pre-registered information at the airports in order to quickly complete the identification process at the designated gate and board the plane.

President Yoon Hyeong-jung stated, "In the future, we plan to minimize the inconvenience of waiting in line to board an aircraft or purchase products by expanding the service for application to duty-free shops and unmanned vending machines, as well as the flight check-in procedure, and to upgrade airport users' convenience to the next level.”

Since May of last year, KAC has implemented bio-information identification services for Nonghyup Bank's 'Hana One Hand Authentication Service' and 'Smart Banking App' customers. Through this agreement, the service has been extended to nine additional financial institutions.

According to the Korea Airports Corporation's 'Guidelines for the Time Required for Airport Check-in,' check-in for customers using biometric authentication was found to be faster than for other passengers who spent an average of 6 minutes at Gimpo Airport and 5 minutes at Jeju International Airport from check-in to baggage drop-off and identification.
