Yangon International Airport Facilitates Special Lunar New Year Charter Flights from Xiamen

  • 08 Feb 2018

Yangon International Airport (YIA), the largest and busiest airport in Myanmar capable of handling 20 million passengers, today facilitated the first charter flight operations from Xiamen, China for this coming Lunar New Year season.

Through the marketing effort of YIA’s Business Development and Strategy teams, YIA welcomed 97 guests on the inaugural flight. The charter was arranged by YKQ International Travel from Beijing, China in conjunction with Land.Sun Travel in Myanmar.

The guests took the first unscheduled chartered flight from Xiamen, China, operated by Myanmar Airways International (MAI) and arrived this morning at 4:50am local time at Yangon International Airport. Comprising a series of four exclusive non-stop charters during this celebratory month of February, the Lunar New Year flights will be operated by MAI’s A319 aircraft with each capable of carrying up to 126 passengers.

During their time in Myanmar, the first batch of guests will be introduced to the charm of Yangon as a bustling hub, as well as tour the attractions and taste the delicacies the city has to offer. The guests will also visit other cities in Myanmar such as Thanlyin, Bago, Ngwe Saung, Mandalay, and Bagan before departing from YIA on 12 February 2018.

To commemorate the inaugural flight, YIA and MAI’s welcome parties were present to receive the visitors this morning with welcome banners and welcome gifts.

In line with this one-time event, YIA has requested for the co-operation of its retail tenants to offer added shopping options tailored for its Chinese guests at its duty-free retail shops to ensure a pleasant and comfortable experience.

Aside from ensuring the best services possible toward a high-performance airport as the operator of YIA, we believe our continuing promotion and marketing of the tourism potential in Myanmar will bring economic benefits to the people and the country.

Paving the way to grow air routes and tourism to Myanmar

With the airport as the first point of entry and contact with Myanmar, YIA takes an active role in promoting tourism to the country. YIA’s Route Development Strategy includes strengthening connectivity to primary neighbouring regions as well as to more ASEAN destinations and vice versa including secondary cities and destinations within 6 hours flight time.

These charter flights constitute part of YIA’s effort to market and explore air routes and tourism to Myanmar. Leading the partnership between MAI and YKQ International Travel, YIA is paving the way to set the standard as a high-performance airport. The joint effort and cooperation of the various parties also reflects the confidence and positivity towards promoting Myanmar as a choice destination for Chinese tourists.
