Yangon International Airport Witnessed Overwhelming Passenger Traffic
- 27 Jul 2018
Yangon International Airport, the largest and busiest airport in Myanmar, saw an overwhelming jump in passenger traffic this morning at its international terminal.
As eleven (11) airlines previously operating from Terminal 2 commenced operations at Terminal 1 today coupled with an unprecedented number of travellers, meeters and greeters during this long weekend for the Full Moon Day of Waso, traffic at the airport surged to record levels. This unusual situation led to passenger delays at the entry ways of T1 during the early peak hour.
YIA has since put in place additional measures today to ensure smoother passenger flows.
Departing Passengers can now access Terminal 1 through:
- Two (2) dedicated screening lanes at Gate 3, serving check-in areas A and B;
- Tow (2) dedicated screening lanes at Gate 4, serving check-in areas C to F;
Access to the public arrivals area of Terminal 1 through:
- One (1) newly-opened dedicated screening lane at Gate 7, allowing the easy access for families and friends to receive arriving passengers;
For Airport staff and Airline crew:
- One (1) new dedicated access and screening channel at Gate 2, to improve operational efficiency.
Together with the increase of manpower, Yangon International Airport has established a total of four (4) additional screening lanes to ensure a seamless and pleasant passenger experience.
With this, YIA will fully resolve the delays experienced by passengers this morning during the peak hour and apologises for any inconvenience caused during that period.
Moving forward, YIA looks forward to providing better passenger experiences to all at T1. T2 will be shut down until further notice for upgrading works.
