The topic of rising airfare trends was one of the focal points of discussions among airport leaders during the Board Meeting of the Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID), hosted by Cambodia Airports, in Phnom Penh.
Hamad International Airport (DOH) continues to strengthen its position as a global aviation hub, with Q1 2024 marking its busiest quarter yet, surpassing all previous records set in 2023. This quarter saw a remarkable surge in passenger traffic, recording a 27.6% increase, as well as significant growth in aircraft movements by 23.9% and cargo operations by 15.4%.
Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) today released the air traffic figures for Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) for March 2024. During the month, HKIA handled 4.36 million passengers and 29,840 flight movements, representing year-on-year increases of 56.7% and 48.2%, respectively.
Kansai Airports today announces the forecast of international passenger traffic, Japanese and nonJapanese combined, at Kansai International Airport (KIX) during the upcoming Golden Week (11 days from Friday, April 26, to Monday, May 6).
Airport International Group announced that Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) welcomed 597,134 passengers (PAX) in March, reflecting a 19.2% decrease compared to 2023 figures. During the same month, QAIA recorded 5,476 aircraft movements (ACM) and handled 6,361 tons of cargo, marking an 11.4% decline and a 13.5% increase, respectively, from the same period the previous year.
During FY 2023-2024, Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (KIAB / BLR Airport) witnessed the highest-ever annual passenger traffic and cargo numbers, with a total of 37.53 million passengers traversing through its terminals and 439,524 metric tonnes (MT) of cargo passing through the BLR Airport. BLR Airport catered to 32.86 million domestic passengers and 4.67 million international passengers during this period.
Auckland Airport Chief Customer Officer, Scott Tasker, said while the number of flights and seat capacity was lower than the same time pre-pandemic, Auckland Airport will still be busy as the first school holidays of the year kick off.
Mangaluru International Airport ticked all the right boxes in areas which define growth for an airport – passengers handled and air traffic movements (ATMs) – for the financial year 2023-2024. This is in line with global and national trends which has seen robust growth in aviation sector ever since the global pandemic served as the travel disruptor. In doing so, the airport has handled the highest passengers and ATMs since commercial operation date (CoD).
The 2024 summer season starts from March 31, 2024. In the new season, the daily scheduled flights will increase 11.5% to 2,481 flights at two airports in Shanghai with 1,699 flights at Pudong International Airport and 782 flights at Hongqiao International Airport.
As the non-Japanese traffic exceeded the 2019 pre-COVID level at 105%*, and the Japanese traffic was also on a recovery trend, at 60%* compared to the same month in 2019, the entire passenger traffic for international flights recovered at 91%* vs. 2019.
