Traffic Recovery Milestones Emerged In Taoyuan International Airport as Country Gradually Opened its Border
- 2022-07-15
TTIA witnessed passenger traffic recovery in the first half of 2022 as Taiwan cautiously loosens its border control.
On 15 June, passenger transfer service at TTIA was reopened; the government also allowed relatives and friends to carry arrival passengers to quarantine destinations. About 20% of arrival passengers have left the airport in this way at the first day, and the percentage has risen to 40% at the end of June. On 29 June, the daily passenger traffic of TTIA exceeded 10,000 for the first time since April 2020, reaching 10,353.
Passenger traffic of 1H2022 is approximately 0.73 million, a 61% YTD growth in comparison with 2021. Cargo volume during the same period reaches 1.328 million tons, a 2% YTD decline.
On 7 July, due to the gradual and stable decrease of daily Coivd cases, the Central Epidemic Command Center widened the quota of weekly arrival passenger number to 40,000. It is expected that an 80,000 weekly passenger traffic will be the norm after this policy.
Taoyuan International Airport Corporation (TIAC) adjusts terminal services such as flow arrangement and taxi capacities according to the changing passenger number. TIAC also takes advantage of the pandemic to upgrade and overhaul existing facilities and infrastructure in the landside and airside, including BHS, check-in counters, waiting lounges, and runways. With the gradual opening of the border, TTIA is confident to welcome the coming passengers with new and better services.
