Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) announced on March 23 that it has gained global recognition for its AI innovation achievements, becoming the first airport in Asia to join the “Airports AI Alliance(AAA)”.

Established last year, the AAA is a global partnership in the field of airport AI innovation, comprising major airports such as Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the U.S. and Germany’s Fraport, alongside leading tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and NVIDIA. The alliance aims to lead the innovation and development of the airport industry in the AI era by optimizing airport operations and enhancing sustainability through AI technologies.

Incheon Airport received a request to join the AAA due to its achievements in digital transformation and the establishment of an aviation AI innovation hub. On the 19th, at the Airports AI Alliance Summit held in Washington D.C., it officially joined the AAA, becoming the first airport in Asia and the second non-American airport after Frankfurt Airport.

The AAA Summit, held on March 19-20 in Washington D.C., featured approximately 100 executives from major airports and big tech companies under the AAA, engaging in workshops and seminars related to AI.

During a welcome ceremony for new members at the summit, the AAA emphasized Incheon Airport's strategic position as a partner leading the future of the global airport industry in the AI era and requested its active participation in airport AI innovations.
On the 20th, President&CEO Lee Hag-jae participated as a keynote speaker at the AAA Summit, presenting the strategic role of AI and future vision in the airport and aviation industry. In his keynote speech, he shared the corporation's plans for developing an aviation AI innovation hub and proposed the 'Incheon Airport 4.0' vision, which includes expanding AI infrastructure, enhancing R&D, and fostering a global business network, garnering significant interest from attendees.

On the 21st, Mr.Lee received a special invitation from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and visited their headquarters. During this visit, he learned about various applications of AI technology in the global aviation industry and engaged in in-depth discussions regarding the corporation's ongoing digital transformation project across all areas of airport operations and the integration of AI technology within the airport industry.

Since declaring its digital transformation in March last year, Incheon Airport Corporation has been pursuing digital innovation across all aspects of airport operations and working to establish an Aviation AI Innovation Hub. With this AAA membership, it expects to accelerate its ongoing AI innovations and lead the future airport paradigm represented by AI.

Mr. Lee, President and CEO of IIAC said that "Joining the AAA and participating in the summit is a significant achievement that recognizes Incheon Airport's AI innovation efforts globally," and added, "We plan to strengthen our cooperative relationships with major airports and accelerate our efforts in creating an aviation AI innovation hub and industrial ecosystem to enhance our future competitiveness, making Incheon Airport a game-changer in the world."

Meanwhile, the corporation is promoting the development of an aviation AI innovation hub, focusing on an aviation AI data center, aviation R&D and business center, and attracting global big tech companies. After reviewing proposals from related companies through a proposal solicitation process, it plans to proceed with the recruitment announcement for private operators in the near future.
