The 34th Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific Regional Board Meeting was held in Muscat on 6th December 2022. As the epidemic development and immigration policies vary between different countries, both in-person and virtual meeting was held at the same time. Aviation business leaders from across the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region attended the meeting to provide strategic direction for ACI Asia-Pacific in its advocacy efforts, programmes and activities within the region.

Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) as part of its continued focus on security, handed over specialized Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad equipment to the Airport Security Group (ASG) of CISF. Following the global agreement on achieving net zero carbon emissions in aviation by 2050, ACI Asia-Pacific presented a policy paper on decarbonisation at the 6th ICAO Conference for Director General of Civil Aviation for the Middle East in Abu Dhabi, calling for enhanced government support for airports to achieve net zero goals.
Kansai Airports today announced that it will carry out an earthquake and tsunami drill at Kansai International Airport (KIX) on November 11, 2022. The drill, covering the entire airport islands, simulates a scenario in which a Nankai Trough mega-quake with magnitude 9.0 occurs, triggering a major tsunami warning for Osaka Prefecture. Through practices such as initial response to the earthquake and evacuation of the terminal buildings, the drill aims at enhancing disaster preparedness among airport workers and building a shared understanding of actions to be taken in the event of an earthquake and tsunami. Kansai Airports will continue to strive for securing a safe traveling environment for all airport guests.
The committee focused particularly on various emerging aviation security threats, including the rising number of drone attacks against civil aviation. The committee discussed the pros and cons of different anti-drone technologies and exchanged insights on their emergency response procedures for drone attacks.
Aimed to raise awareness and facilitate regional cooperation on enhancing air travel accessibility for passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility, the workshop was attended physically and virtually by over 30 representatives from ASEAN Member States and industry associations, including ACI Asia-Pacific and IATA.
